I met Frank and his daughter, Mayra, 4th grade, while grocery shopping, and he responded with enthusiasm to my questions about his beliefs. He told me he has been "saved" for about a year, and attends a Bible study and church regularly, highlighted by the experience of praising God and praying in tongues. His mother practices what she calls "white magic" which he recognizes as witchcraft. Being young in his faith, Frank had a hard time explaining the basis for his salvation (by God's grace through faith in Christ), for he confused it with the results of his faith (good works and Christian disciplines). Yet he was very quick to correct his error when I reminded him that we need to trust in Jesus alone for salvation. We talked further and I was blessed to be able to offer this young believer some advice about making Bible reading a daily discipline. Frank confessed he had fallen away from church involvement in the last month. He had already decided to go back after being inspired by the movie "Book of Eli", but he was also very grateful for this unexpected exhortation at the grocery store.
