9/13/10    Ted, Paul, Sally, Ricardo    all middle aged
After church yesterday I planned a 'fishing expedition" with Paul, an older church brother, so we met after work today to share the gospel with whomever we might come across. We had conversations with Ted, Paul and his girlfriend Sally, and Ricardo, and they all had some things in common - they all have heard the gospel clearly through various ministries of our church, and they all continue to trust in their own "good works" for salvation. I know Jesus said "But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself" (John 12:32) and I trust that He will, but the means that God has ordained is the proclamation of this gospel through people like you and me, which we must be ready to do as many times as neccesary to help people overcome their obstacles to faith. For Ted and Sally, a big obstacle seems to be a lack of comprehension; for Paul it seems to be alcoholism; and for Ricardo it seems to be unbiblical religious traditions that he won't let go of.  How many of us heard the Gospel from a variety of people before we came to faith in Jesus?  Don't we owe more than one opportunity to others?

Pauls girlfriend was Lois, not Sally, thats OK, I can imagine how many people you talk to in your job and in your evangelizing.
It really is a learning experience and eye-opener going on a 'fishing expedition' with Jeff. People one would not expect to, DO hunger to hear the message of hope and salvation. Just when you figure someone is bored or inateentive, they are hanging on every word. One minute they are in a rush to catch a bus and the next they watch a couple of buses go by. I'm sure it is a testament to Jeffs easy-going, friendly style but it is also peoples curiousity to hear the message. Some people are either incapable or simply unable to talk to someone who can logically explain things to them in a friendly, non-threatening way. It was very helpful to me to see how Jeff approaches strangers and engages them in friendly conversation. I can see a Jehovahs Witness coming a mile away but Jeff makes it easy to see how you can meet someone as easily as someone asking for directions or commenting on the weather. I recommend people spend an hour with Jeff not only to see how easy it is to spread the Good News but to see how easy it is to show interest in other people and make friends. We met people who know other people who know other people and so on. It also just goes to show how small this little blue ball is. I know nothing is for everyone but it just might be for you and there is only one way to find out. I guarantee you ... you'll get just as much out of it as others will. It definitely is not time wasted ... oh, and THANKS JEFF!
