8/11/12 Ishmael, about 25
There are so many unique
little worlds of people all around us. During
today's White Sox game I found about 30 guys, all in their 20's or 30's, all with
restored BMX bicycles, posing for pictures outside the stadium. After the pictures I asked a few about their
group. They have BMX conventions where
they buy, sell and show restored BMX bikes and they also have bicycle rallies like
today's where they meet to ride together, some coming from as far as Detroit. They had just put on over 20 miles riding
around Chicago, including a ride from Wrigley Field to Cellular Field. Whoda thought?
When people spend large amounts of time with special interest clubs like
this, how can they be reached with the Gospel? I gave some of them million dollar tracts,
telling them that the tracts make a fun souvenir but also that they have a serious question on
the back - "Will you go to heaven?"
We began to talk, but they were on their bikes and easily distracted by
the rest of the group doing tricks all around them, so they rode off except for
one young man named Ishmael, who stayed by me, reading the gospel message on
the back. As we talked I found out that
he became a believer through a drug rehab program just two years ago, and is reading
the Bible and growing in his faith. I
helped him understand how to more clearly express the Gospel, and prayed with
him for God's blessing on his life. Ishmael showed no hesitation in conversing
and praying with me in front of his peers.
Maybe God has a plan for reaching this group with the Gospel after all!
