10/14/15 Grandfather
What is more
important, the message or the messager?
Charles, 25, is both young in age and young in spirit. He just became a Christian within the last
year, and he came with me today to reach out with the Gospel! He spoke in Mandarin with the older man in this
video. We didn’t learn the man’s name so
we’ll call him Grandfather since he had been walking with his granddaughter. Charles was a little discouraged at first
because Grandfather was not a believer and he sort of mocked him for his
beliefs in God. But afterward we talked
about this age difference, since in Chinese culture it is very important to
show respect to ones elders. So should
only older Christians share the Gospel with an older man like Grandfather? Or does the message speak for itself,
regardless of the age of the person sharing it?
We concluded that God can indeed speak truth through a young man like Charles
to an elder like Grandfather, but we also believe it would be a long time
before Grandfather would admit that such a young man had persuaded him. Best to faithfully share the Gospel, and not
be so concerned about whether or not we see any outward signs or results of our
efforts!
