9/4/13 Marty, Brandon, Chuck,Dwight, and others
Out prayerwalking
with New Life Community Church again tonite.
No real in-depth Gospel conversations, but we offered prayer for or with
many people along the way. Most were
open to us praying for them right there on the sidewalk; others didn’t feel
comfortable with this so we told them we would pray for them later. Most have belonged to nearby churches all
their life, churches that are known to have “let go of the commands of God and
are holding on to human traditions.” (Mark
7) I believe these churches have so watered
down the important truths of the Bible that they distract people away from the Gospel
more than they lead them to it. Yet we
offered prayers of blessing for these people – Marty, Dwight, Brandon, Chuck
and others – and for their churches without criticism, along with prayers of
blessing for their health, families, and work.
Why not warn them instead of the dangers of false teaching in their
churches? Because I truly believe that
God heard our prayers, and when He decides to “bless” a local church, this
could take many forms, positive or negative, designed to bring them back to a
right relationship with Himself based on His Word. Our prayers are much more effective than our
criticism! And besides, I believe this
is the sort of less-than-ideal church situation that Paul was writing about in Romans
14, where he wrote “Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own
master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to
make them stand.” and “Let us therefore
make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. Do not destroy the work of God for the sake
of food (or other minor differences).”
Do you agree with this approach?
If not, will you pray for us?
