2/2/16 Ross about 70
If there is such a thing as a “good” reason not to believe in Jesus, I
think it would be the reason that a man named Ross gave me today. He
said it’s just too incredible. To think that God would take on human
form and allow Himself to be humiliated, tortured and to die for sinful
people like us is just inconceivable. I met Ross at a Burger King where
he agreed to talk about his beliefs. At first he said it was hard to
believe that God would allow His own Son to die that way,
as if it were some sort of accident beyond His control and that it
caught Him by surprise. His mother was a Christian but he has pursued
other beliefs, and has now just settled into doubting them all. But
after a lengthy explanation of our need for a savior and how Jesus was
in full control and aware of the inevitability of the cross, his doubt
shifted toward amazement. He still is not a believer, but he is not far
from that constant sense of wonder that characterizes our life in
Christ. “Amazing love, how can it be? That thou my God wouldst die for
me!”
