On this Mother’s Day, maybe the best way we can show
gratitude to our mothers is to “pay it forward”. This might seem like a relatively new
catchphrase, but it’s an idea as old as the Gospel. I had initiated a Gospel conversation with “Dave”
in a parking lot conversation after I had done some shopping, and was
explaining why we as Christians share our faith. “It’s not to earn salvation, because Jesus
already saved us at the cross, but it’s a response to having been saved, a way
to show gratitude for all God has done for us.” I was telling him. “Sort of like paying it forward” Dave
observed. “Yes” I said, “And Jesus said
that we can show him our love by obeying His commands, and that what we do for
others we do for Him” I’m so glad
faithful mothers, fathers, grandparents – all the people of past generations
who have faithfully brought us the Gospel down through the ages have brought it
to us – and isn’t the best way we can thank them – and the Lord - to “pay it
forward” to the generations to come?
