Which version of the Bible do you read?
Some of the most popular versions aren’t even in print. There’s the CMV (Childhood Memory
Version). This is the version that
relies on the memories of dumbed-down stories from our childhood, often
complete with dramatic illustrations that have morphed into memories of
simplistic caricatures over the years.
Then there’s the ABGV (Anything But God Version). This version relies on the revisionist
history interpretations of skeptics, most of whom are the disgruntled children
of very conservative parents. It is more
of a commentary, known for very creative alternative explanations for all
things divine in the Bible, as a way for rebellious youngsters to really flaunt
their independence from everything their parents hold dear.
Of course there’s the standard CTV (Conspiracy Theory
Version), the MOV (Missalette Only Version), the RROV (Roman Road Only Version),
and the BALV (Bible As Literature Version).
These versions all have one thing in common. They aren’t intended as primary source
documents by us as readers who think for ourselves , but rather through someone
else’s eyes and according to their interpretation. And they are often the only versions of the
Bible some people will ever “read”.

I spoke with a man named Tom who could relate to most of those
other versions. I think he realized he
needs to read the Bible for himself as an adult and as it is intended to be
read – as God’s revelation of Himself and His actions throughout human history.
I hope he does and I’d love to talk
about it with him as he does so.
Thank you, Tom, for a very interesting conversation and allowing
me to record it. It can be seen HERE.
