What to do if your heart wants to believe in God, but your
mind won’t cooperate? That was the
dilemma a man named Jules presented during an outreach conversation on a
streetcorner. He told me “I love the
idea of believing, but just can’t commit myself to it intellectually.”
Romans 10:17 tells us what to do: “…faith comes from hearing the message, and
the message is heard through the word about Christ.”
Really want to believe but just can’t get of those
doubts? Surround yourself with reasons
to believe from the Bible. Specifically,
the parts of the Bible that focus on Christ.
Hang out with people who will teach you from their years of experience reading
and living out the Bible. Feed your
faith on God’s word, and those doubts will starve to death!
Can’t really find the time to get into God’s Word and around
God’s people like that? Then, truth be
told, maybe you really just want to believe in a “god” on your own terms, or maybe
you didn’t want to believe like you thought you did in the first place….
