Friendly Warning, Reality Avoidance, Good News in Context of Bad News

12/28/19           Alan  (see HERE)

A man was crossing a road when another pedestrian, whom he had never met, told him “Get out of the way, a truck is coming, you’ll get run over!”  At which the man covered his eyes and said “No worries, I don’t believe in trucks!”

No matter how much the man covers his eyes and denies what he has heard, it doesn’t change the reality of the situation.  The same goes for the Gospel when I encounter people who deny God’s existence.  Like the fellow pedestrian, I feel compelled to warn them of the danger they are in.

People like Alan, on vacation from Mexico, who told me of his disbelief in God and a preferred belief in reincarnation.  My hope is that he will uncover his eyes and take a good look at the truths of the Bible, that we are “destined to die once, and after that to face judgment” as we read in Hebrews 9.

No one enjoys telling others the bad news that “a truck is coming”, but the good news is its not to late to get out of the way!  And just as we are warned of the coming judgement, that same passage goes on to say “Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.”

We have such good news of salvation to share, but it only makes sense in the context of the bad news that “a truck is coming”.  We can’t make people uncover their eyes, but they can still hear us so we must not stand around and say nothing.

Thanks, Alan, for allowing us to record our conversation!  It can be seen at https://youtu.be/F4gTyLT4xLE
