5/1/20 Donterio (see HERE)
What happens after this life? That was a question that got Chicago comedian Donterio Hundon to get serious for a few minutes, along with a Target security guard and fan of Donterio's comedy videos.
Like most people, they believe the conventional wisdom that you "reap what you sow" - that good people can expect the reward of heaven and evil people will perish. Isn't that what the Bible says?
But really, if we can get to heaven by being "good enough" (whatever that means, can we ever know?) then we wouldn't need Jesus! But Jesus c

ame to save sinners, not "good people"! This means 1.) We need to be saved; and 2.) We can't save ourselves! In fact, if we believe that God "knows our heart" and sees that we at least have good intentions, then our trust is in ourselves and our own goodness, not in Jesus.
So we know we aren't perfect, but doesn't our good outweigh our bad somehow? Well, if we do the good that we ought to do, then we are just being the human beings God created us to be. We should do good because God gave us our ability, our health, and our time, so we can't use our good deeds to somehow "pay" for the bad things we ought not to do. We are deeply in debt because of our sins, and the Bible says that God is so holy that we could never pay that debt, even after an eternity in hell.
But God offers forgiveness and eternal life for those who turn from their sins (repent) and turn to Jesus in faith, trusting Him because He died for us and rose again, conquering death and the grave as only God could do. God promises us that “the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Will you trust Jesus like that? What's stopping you? If you are honest, it's probably the sins you know you would have to turn from.
I’ll be honest too, and tell you that turning from sins and sinful habits is really impossible by your own efforts. But the good news is that you aren’t alone – the Bible also promises that “God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
God loves you just as you are, in spite of your sins, but He loves you too much to allow you to stay that way, for it only leads to death. He gave His only Son, “that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” The bad news is that our sins cut us off from a right relationship with God, but the good news is that in Christ God saves us from our sins, not just in the next life but here and now!
If you’ve read this far, I know you are ready. It’s time to repent and receive Jesus, to start reading the Bible and obeying it, and get involved in a healthy church that takes the Bible and our relationship with Jesus seriously.
Thanks, Donterio, for allowing me to record our conversation. I did watch some of your videos, and I think you are talented, creative and funny. Of course, as I Christian I don’t like profanity or putting others down. God gives all of us gifts and talents, and we are to use them for His glory, not our own. If you turn your life, talents, hopes and dreams over to Him, I believe He will show you how to do this and bless you in ways you can’t even imagine right now.
I’ll leave you with this passage, and I believe you are creative enough to figure out how to apply it to your comedy: “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8
