10/31/20 Chris (see HERE)
It was one of the shortest
conversations I’ve recorded, but no less meaningful. While out grocery shopping, I asked a young
man named Chris what he thinks will happen after this life. As a Baptist, Chris believes he will go to
heaven, but when I asked more about that he told me the true source of his
faith – that Jesus died for his sins. No
talk of his own good works or even his own acceptance of Jesus – just a simple
matter-of-fact declaration of faith in Jesus.
Why do we make it so complicated? I think Chris expressed what Jesus was talking about in Matthew 18:3 - “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” The Gospel can be so simple if we can just forget ourselves and put the focus on Jesus.
Jesus loves me, this I know - for the Bible tells me so. It's that simple.
